The future is looking electric in Luxembourg. In 2022, more than 15% of registered new cars featured an electric engine. While electric cars are still some distance from the top spot, the trend is pointing towards higher uptake as in 2020 just 5.5% of new cars sold were electric. Hybrids, meanwhile, made up 28.2% of new cars last year.

This rapid change in consumer preferences has, perhaps unsurprisingly, come at the cost of internal combustion engines - petrol cars have seen their market share decline from 43.4% in 2020 to 34.6% in 2022, and diesel from 36.8% to 21.9%.
