A major construction project means no trains will run between Luxembourg Central Station, Wasserbillig, and Trier for a month from Monday morning, with CFL closing the line towards Germany until 20 September as part of its summer works programme.
The Luxembourg section between the capital and Wasserbillig will reopen on 14 September, in time for the start of the new school year.
More than 11km of track will be completely renewed between Wecker and Fausermillen near Mertert, involving the replacement of 19,000 sleepers and 7,000 tonnes of ballast.
CFL spokesperson Alexandra Nonnweiler said the scale and complexity of the project went well beyond the track works themselves, with work also planned on the border bridge.
She explained that in areas where tracks and ballast were replaced last year using a large track-renewal train, CFL will now renovate access routes between Wecker and Rood, including secure access for staff.
Nonnweiler added that work will also be carried out on signalling and telecommunications infrastructure and the cable ducts housing the relevant wiring.
"On top of that, we will also be working on the border bridge between Wasserbillig and Germany", she said, adding that the bridge will undergo waterproofing work as well as extensive repairs to its concrete and stonework.
Replacement buses will operate throughout the closure on five routes towards Trier, including intermediate stops. Further information is available on cfl.lu, the CFL apps, and mobilitéit.lu.
Passengers travelling from Luxembourg Central Station or the east of the country towards Germany will therefore need to allow extra time and patience over the next four weeks.
