40 years after the initial bombings in the Grand Duchy, the Bomber’s Affair, known as “Bommeleeër” in Luxembourgish, remains unresolved. Eight individuals will now stand trial separately on charges of false testimony.
The five former Gendarmerie officers – Guy Stebens, Pierre Reuland, Charles Bourg, Armand Schockweiler, and Aloyse Harpes–are no longer facing prosecution for obstruction of justice, as this charge has been dropped by the Pre-trial Chamber of the Court of Appeals. They will now only respond to accusations of false testimony.
Additionally, Marcel Weydert, a former member of the Mobile Brigade, along with two former public safety officials, Paul Haan and Guillaume Büchler, will also face the criminal court on charges of false testimony. One of the accused, Jos Steil, has passed away.
The Court of Appeal’s Pre-trial Chamber determined that the criminal file did not contain any decisive evidence to justify imposing further measures related to the explosive attacks against the former head of the Mobile Brigade, Ben Geiben.
A decision regarding the main trial for former gendarmes Jos Scheer and Marc Wilmes in connection with the Bomber’s Affair is still pending.
