290 kilos of hashish
Customs officials pulled over a truck from Spain in January this year after it was flagged on their mobile X-ray device. The vehicle had a concealed compartment under its usual space, which contained around 290 kilogrammes of hashish.
The drugs were seized by order of the public prosecutor’s office, and an investigation was launched. The truck driver was also arrested and brought before magistrates.
179 kilos of cannabis
At the end of January, officers checked a lorry trailer travelling to Ghent in Belgium. A sniffer dog alerted officials, and around 179 kilos of cannabis were discovered following a search of the vehicle.
An investigation was launched and the drugs confiscated.
100 grams of heroin and hashish
In February, a drug smuggler was caught entering Luxembourg on a train from Belgium. A sniffer dog signalled an issue with the man’s luggage, which was promptly checked by customs officers. It was found to contain approximately 100 grams of heroin and 100 grams of hashish, as well as 100 grams of laxatives and €1,740 in cash. All items were seized, while the man was arrested and brought before a judge.
