
A driver was left in a critical condition after losing control of their vehicle on the Route d'Arlon between Bertrange and Mamer.
Emergency services were alerted at around 11.45pm on Wednesday night after the car veered across the centre line for reasons that remain unclear and struck a street lamp with considerable force. The driver was treated at the scene before being rushed to hospital, where his condition is described as critical.
Police carried out the initial investigation and an accident report has been filed. The exact circumstances of the loss of control of the vehicle remain under investigation.
In a separate incident a few minutes later, another accident occurred on the RN11 between Gonderange and Waldhof, where one person was also reported injured. Rescue teams from Niederanven and Junglinster were dispatched to the scene.
In a separate incident on Wednesday night, police stopped a motorist during a traffic control on Boulevard Robert Schuman in Limpertsberg shortly before midnight. The driver was clocked at 110km/h in a 50km/h zone. Upon further inspection, police determined she was also over the legal alcohol limit. The facts were recorded and she was issued a provisional driving ban.
