A St. Michan's Church tour guide noticed the headless crusader when he unlocked the crypt doors on Monday morning in time for the first visitors. The lock on the door to the crypt had been broken open.
The guide notified the police of the unusual theft.
The Archbishop of Dublin spoke out after the incident, expressing his shock at the idea that people would force their way into an old grave site and vandalise the mortal remains of the people buried there.
As shocking as this case sounds, it is not the first time that St. Michan's Church, a popular Dublin tourist attraction, has been broken into. In 1996, the crypt had already been broken into. After this incident, the bishop said that the crypt would likely close its doors to visitors for good.
