An EU Commission report into Luxembourg's rule of law notes that the justice system is efficient, but that cases are taking too long to get to court.

The timeframe for court cases coming to a hearing has increased, even though the Luxembourg judiciary is working efficiently, wrote the EU Commission in their latest report on the rule of law, published on Friday. By the time a new tribunal is created, the administrative efficiency of the judiciary should also increase, the report continues.

Regarding the fight against corruption, the Commission notes that whistleblower reports have increased this year. Furthermore, discussions on codes of conduct for locally elected politicians are ongoing and have not yet been concluded.

The main conclusions of the commission are that the digitalisation of court proceedings should proceed more quickly and that the reform of free access to official documents should be finalized.
