The aim of the bypass construction is to shift the thousands of vehicles a day that currently drive through the city centre away to the outer perimeter of town. This will make the railway crossing on the main road superfluous, and come as a relief to residents who have to deal with the noise and pollution caused by countless cars and train traffic.
The completion of the bypass was originally planned for 2012, but when one land owner didn't want to give up his property, the project hit a major hurdle.
Now however, the Dippach bypass project is finally going ahead again. Construction is expected to take up to two and a half years and will cost up to €17 million.
