At a communal press conference on Tuesday morning, the three unions once again criticised the decision taken by UEL to withdraw from the standing committee for labour and employment (CPTE).
The employers' organisation strategy has prevented negotiations moving forward on indispensable reforms in a constantly changing world of work. The trade unions listed six topics , including the platform economy and the false self-employed. They also called on the government to defend itself against UEL.
When asked if the unions could not accept that employers were committed to their own interests, the OGBL's president, André Roeltgen, replied this was a question of social partnership or class struggle. He said those only following their own interests and turning their backs on social dialogue were regressing to a hundred years ago.
A large protest demonstration was announced to take place on 19 November in front of the hotel Alvisse in Dommeldange.
If the employers' organisation refuses to change its position, the unions will suffer the consequences at another level of conflict, said the assembled union representatives.
