Police have issued a call for witnesses after several instances of racist and xenophobic graffiti were reported on both public and private property in the greater Belvaux area.

Police are investigating after several examples of graffiti with racist and xenophobic messages were discovered on Tuesday, 9 July, in the Belvaux area, affecting both public and private property. Authorities are treating the case as vandalism with a hate-motivated background.

Witnesses or anyone with information regarding the individuals responsible are urged to contact the Bieles police station via telephone at 244 52 1000 or by email at police.BELVAUX@police.etat.lu. Information can also be shared with the Esch-sur-Alzette police station at 244 50 1000 or by sending an email to police.ESCH@police.etat.lu

The Sanem local council also addressed the incidents on social media on Thursday. In a Facebook post, the municipality confirmed that "defamatory graffiti had been reported on communal territory". According to the statement, a formal complaint has been filed, and the relevant municipal services will remove the graffiti "as quickly as possible".
