Average yearly temperatures have increased by 1.6°C compared to the period of time between 1961 and 1990. The amount of rain in the same time period has dropped by 6%.

2015 was a record-breaking year, with 18 days of extreme heat, that is to say temperatures over 30°C.

On a more positive note, greenhouse gas emissions have dropped by a quarter between 1990 and 2017. Around 57% of these emissions are caused by traffic. Sales of petrol and diesel to non-residents - so-called fuel tourists - are included in Luxembourg emissions.
However, households in the Grand Duchy seem to be aware of energy saving. As a result, energy consumption fell by 17% between 2008 and 2016, despite the increase in the number of inhabitants.

Energy consumption has now stabilised at a value of three tonnes of CO2 per capita.

Another positive figure: the consumption of renewable energy by households is increasing in Luxembourg, as its rate represents about 4% of global consumption.
