Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg (CHL) has officially opened a new practice centre in Grevenmacher, aiming to bring specialised hospital services closer to patients’ homes.
Inaugurated on Thursday, the new facility in Villa Burton expands CHL’s network of satellite centres, which includes existing locations in Marnach, Steinfort, and Mersch. This eastern Luxembourg site has been relocated and restructured to provide a modern and comfortable environment for outpatient care.
A key function of the centre is to enhance breast cancer screening capacity. To reduce waiting times and allow the main hospital in Luxembourg City to focus on emergencies, nearly all CHL examinations under the national mammography programme will now be conducted in Grevenmacher. Since 1 January 2026, the centre’s mammography machine has already been used approximately 70 times.
Beyond screening, the centre provides chemotherapy for cancer patients and introduces a new treatment for chronic pain: repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS). This non-invasive technique, new to Luxembourg, uses magnetic stimulation to manage pain, allowing patients to undergo regular treatment in a calm, homelike setting.
The expansion of such services to satellite locations is enabled by the new hospital law, which permits procedures like X-rays, MRIs, and certain treatments outside main hospital campuses.
At the inauguration, officials highlighted the benefits of the decentralised model: bringing care closer to patients, shortening wait times, and offering modern facilities. Minister of Health Martine Deprez noted that while practice centres remain linked to hospitals, work is underway to allow independent doctors with hospital agreements to also utilise these satellite sites in the future.
