Consumers who purchased a whole chicken product for soups and stews from Delhaize stores are being urged to check their products after the Luxembourg Veterinary and Food Administration announced a recall due to possible salmonella contamination.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Luxembourg Veterinary and Food Administration (ALVA) issued a recall for a whole chicken product at Delhaize stores due to potential salmonella contamination.

The affected products, identified by lot number 410227, have use by dates of 6 March and 7 March. These items were sold in Delhaize stores between 27 February and 4 March.

Salmonella is a type of bacteria that causes food poisoning, typically contracted through contaminated food or water. Common sources include raw or under-cooked poultry, eggs, meat, unpasteurised dairy, and contaminated produce.

Symptoms usually appear 6 to 72 hours after exposure and can last four to seven days and may include: diarrhoea (sometimes bloody),abdominal cramps, nausea and vomiting, fever and chills, and headache and muscle aches.
