To date, the funfairs in Esch and Differdange have been cancelled, as well as five events in the capital of Luxembourg. The biggest and most important of all, the Schueberfouer in Limpertsberg, is scheduled to open on 21 August.
Luxembourgish carnival workers have deep concern for the organisation of the fair in times of the corona pandemic. They generate more than 50% of their annual income at the Schueberfouer. President of the carny association Charel Hary thus explained that without the capital's fair, future revenue and employ of those involved is at risk.
Most of the people in the business have no income other than the one they accumulate across the several national funfairs, which is why a large part of the community has already made a demand for the government's financial support of € 5,000.
President Hary furthermore explained that without the Schueberfouer, many other sectors, such as food suppliers, would also see a decrease in profits.
