Ruy Pinto has been appointed interim director of the Luxembourg Space Agency (LSA), following Marc Serres, who had headed the agency since its founding in 2018. Pinto, who joined Luxembourg-based satellite operator SES in 2017, was primarily involved in developing SES’s multi-orbital infrastructure. He previously worked for satellite company Inmarsat, providing him with substantial expertise in the sector – a fact emphasised by LSA board president Jacques Thill, who reaffirmed Luxembourg’s ambition to be a key hub for the space industry.
The LSA will also lose its deputy director, as Mathias Link is leaving to join Exobiosphere, a Luxembourg start-up specialising in biomedical research. Exobiosphere plans to launch its first space missions next year.
The agency has not disclosed what Marc Serres’s next professional steps will be.
