New Year's Day was not exempt from crime, as two burglary attempts were reported to police in Dudelange and in Dalheim.

On Thursday afternoon, burglars broke into a house on Rue Lauenburg in Dudelange, stealing jewellery and other valuables.

In Dalheim, thieves smashed a door to gain access to a family residence and stole a safe.

Investigations have been launched into both incidents.

Driving under the influence

Police in the capital were notified of a drink driver travelling through Clausen on Thursday. A patrol eventually pulled the vehicle over near Boulevard Royal and conducted a breathalyser test. The driver had their licence confiscated and received a provisional driving ban as a result.
