Wide-reaching impact expected from Belgian trade unions' protest against government spending cuts.

Trains are running on a reduced schedule starting on Sunday evening, before operating at half capacity throughout Monday.

The most recent updates can be found on the SNCB’s and the CFL’s websites.

Municipality and federal employees are expected to strike on Tuesday, which will impact the regular functioning of schools, daycare centres, postal services, hospitals and public transport.

Private sector employees will also be joining the movement on Wednesday.

Additionally, air traffic to Belgium’s two busiest airports, Brussels Airport and Charleroi, will also be suspended.

The government had previously announced significant spending cuts to save 10 billion euros until 2030, Belgium being one of the most debt-ridden countries in Europe.
