A scam involving a fraudulent phone call and a home visit by an impostor has led to two arrests, Luxembourg police announced on Wednesday.
Police have made two arrests in connection with a Luxtrust scam that culminated in a home visit to the victim on Tuesday evening.
The case began when the victim responded to a fraudulent email promising an account credit. The following day, the victim received a phone call from an individual posing as a Luxtrust employee. The impersonator claimed to be acting in response to the scam and stated they needed the victim's banking details and Luxtrust ID to replace their cards. Subsequently, an individual arrived at the victim's home to collect the bank card in person.
Following an investigation, police apprehended two suspects. A search of one suspect uncovered a large sum of cash and the victim's bank card. A subsequent search of a suspect's residence revealed another significant amount of cash.
The two individuals were arrested on the orders of the Public Prosecutor's Office and brought before an examining magistrate on Wednesday morning.
