Luxembourg City has been honoured with the European Energy Award Gold for its climate policies, achieving a high score for its sustainable mobility and energy-efficient public buildings.
The municipality of Luxembourg City has received the European Energy Award Gold at the beginning of November, recognising its sustained commitment to climate action and environmental protection.
The European Energy Award Gold is a distinction granted to municipalities and cities across Europe for excellence in environmental and energy policy. Luxembourg City earned the accolade by achieving an overall score of 78.2% in an assessment based on a catalogue of measures from the Climate Pact.
The capital's performance was notably strong in several key areas. It scored 94% in the mobility category, largely due to the conversion of its bus fleet from combustion engines to electric motors. The city also scored 93% for its municipal buildings, reflecting continuous improvements to the energy performance of public infrastructure.
Additionally, a score of 83% in communication and cooperation underscores the municipality's concerted efforts to promote sustainability.
Luxembourg City, which first signed the Climate Pact in 2012, has set a goal of achieving CO₂ neutrality by 2050.
