Police report that a collision on the A7 motorway injured two people on Saturday afternoon, while several other drivers across Luxembourg were stopped overnight for driving under the influence of alcohol.
The reported accident occurred around 2.45pm on the A7 motorway between the Lorentzweiler exit and entrance.
According to initial reports, a driver attempted to change lanes when another car collided with the rear of his vehicle, causing it to skid and crash into the central barrier. Both passengers in the affected car were taken to hospital for a check-up. The driver of the second vehicle tested positive for cannabis and received a provisional driving ban, according to the police.
At around 4.40am, a patrol spotted a motorist in Bertrange driving erratically and at excessive speed on the Rue de Luxembourg. A breathalyser test confirmed alcohol consumption. The driver had to leave his vehicle behind and had his licence confiscated.
Later, around 6am on Sunday morning, a driver was found stationary in front of the 'Stafelter' tunnel, having fallen asleep at the wheel. When police tried to wake him, he drove off, but was soon located at a petrol station in Lorentzweiler. He too tested positive for alcohol, and his licence was provisionally suspended.
