Luxembourg recorded 34 cases of euthanasia or assisted suicide last year, up from 22 in 2023, as officials called for greater awareness of advance directives in end-of-life care.

Last year, 34 people in Luxembourg chose euthanasia or assisted suicide, up from 22 cases in 2023 and 34 in 2021.

On Wednesday, the National Commission for the Control and Evaluation of Euthanasia presented its biennial report to the President of the Chamber and the President of the Health Committee.

The report also highlighted the need for greater awareness among healthcare providers and within patients’ personal circles, to ensure that any advance directives regarding end-of-life decisions are known and respected.
