The audit is being conducted independently from, and in parallel with, the ongoing judicial investigation, and will examine governance structures as well as internal control mechanisms within the department.

According to a statement released by the ministry, three staff members were suspended between 4 April and 5 May 2025. Their suspensions were lifted on 6 May 2025, but one of these employees has been suspended again since December 2025.

Further action was taken following a police search of the Immigration Department on 7 July 2026, resulting in the suspension of two additional staff members.

The Ministry for Home Affairs emphasised the presumption of innocence for all staff concerned and stressed that it is committed to respecting both confidentiality and the ongoing judicial proceedings.
