Police have once again issued a warning about a scam that has become increasingly common in recent weeks.
Several recent cases have been reported in which fraudsters posed as Luxtrust employees, claiming to their victims that their bank card had been stolen and used to withdraw a large sum of money. On this basis, the supposed employee of the bank or Luxtrust insisted on visiting the victim in person to collect the card and verify their access.
Police emphasise that banks or other institutions will never ask customers to hand over their bank card or disclose sensitive information, whether in person or over the phone. They are urging anyone who is uncertain to contact their bank directly.
Members of the public are also being asked to inform and warn elderly people in their surroundings about this type of scam.
As fraudsters are increasingly recruiting young people to carry out tasks such as collecting bank cards, police stress that they too must be made aware that such actions constitute criminal offences.
Anyone who has fallen victim to such a scam is urged to report it to their local police station.
