Residents should make the most of the sunshine this Friday and Saturday, as forecasters predict Luxembourg's last glimpse of summer heat will be violently cut short by 15-degree temperature drop and storms on Sunday.
Luxembourg is set for a significant "burst of summer" this Friday and Saturday, with clear skies and temperatures soaring to 28°C, before giving way to autumnal storms and a sharp cooldown on Sunday.
According to forecasts from Meteolux, the pleasant conditions will continue into the weekend. Friday will see blue skies and highs of 24°C to 26°C, with evening temperatures remaining a mild 20°C – ideal for terrace dining. Saturday will be slightly overcast but even warmer, with peak temperatures reaching 26°C to 28°C.
This summer-like interlude will be short-lived. Meteorologists predict a dramatic shift starting Saturday night, as thunderstorms and rain are expected to arrive from the west. This will cause temperatures to plummet by more than 15 degrees, with Sunday's highs forecast to reach "barely" 17°C to 19°C under consistently grey skies.
Heatwave conditions in France
This late-season warmth is not confined to Luxembourg. Météo-France has forecast a widespread "burst of summer" across nearly all of France for Friday.
Temperatures are expected to reach 32°C in Bordeaux, 29°C in Paris, 28°C in Toulouse, and 27°C in Lille. The national meteorological service noted that "35°C could be reached in the plains of the South-West, which is very rare after 15 September," particularly affecting departments like Gironde, Lot-et-Garonne, Landes, and Gers. In the northern half of the country, temperatures could locally reach 30°C in regions such as Hauts-de-France, Normandy, the Paris Basin, and Burgundy.
