At 5pm on Thursday a crash occurred in Eich, after a vehicle attempted to flee police in the capital.

Eyewitnesses told RTL a number of police patrol cars sped down the hill on rue d'Eich, where traffic jams had been building up around rush hour. When one witness reached the bus stop at the bottom of the hill, a black car came speeding towards them in the near lane, driving over the pavement, before crashing between a bus and a wall.

The car's occupants were 3 young people, two of whom succeeded in escaping from the vehicle, presumably injuring themselves as they smashed open the window. The third occupant was trapped in the vehicle and was consequently taken into police custody.

When first asked shortly before 6pm, police confirmed the high-speed chase, and confirmed three individuals had been inside the car. However, details on the reason for the chase were not provided. Burglaries were reported in the area around Steinsel on Thursday, but it is not clear if there is a link between the incidents.

Shortly afterwards, however, the police confirmed to RTL that the three people from the car had managed to escape and that the car chase was connected to a burglary in Walferdange.

Potential witnesses of the burglary or the chase are asked to contact the police. As the police further announced on Friday, the same applies to anyone whose vehicle was damaged during the chase. These people are asked to report to the police station in Bonnevoie on Rue Auguste Charles, either by calling (+352) 244 42 1000 or by email at police.bonnevoie@police.etat.lu.
