Applications for both international and temporary protection in Luxembourg saw a slight decrease in August 2025, according to the latest figures released Wednesday.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs released its latest figures on applications for international and temporary protection on Wednesday, showing a slight decrease in both categories for August 2025.

Last month, 130 people applied for international protection, a decrease from the 149 applications filed in July. The majority of applicants came from Eritrea (24), followed by Afghanistan (16), and Syria (13). Eritrea remained the country of origin with the largest share of applications at 17.1%.

Of the 130 applications submitted in August, 61 were approved.

The report also detailed figures for temporary protection. In August, 78 new applications were submitted, 75 of which were from Ukrainian citizens. Since the beginning of the year, the total number of temporary protection applications has risen to 662, nearly 90% of which are from Ukrainians.

A total of 578 applications have been approved in 2025.
