Luxembourg Airport's 150 million euro runway, refurbished just four years ago, requires further repairs, but Mobility Minister Yuriko Backes assured Parliament that lux-Airport will cover the costs and passengers will not face higher ticket prices.
Significant construction works are scheduled at Findel. Mobility Minister Yuriko Backes, responding to a parliamentary question from MP Jeff Engelen of the Alternative Democratic Reform Party (ADR), stressed that the costs of these additional inspections and repairs will not be passed on to passengers.
She explained that the airport operator, lux-Airport, will bear the full costs of the remedial work. As a result, the fee structure at the airport will remain unchanged, meaning there should be no knock-on effect on ticket prices, she stated.
The runway refurbishment had originally cost around 150 million euros. Yet the outcome has not met the operational standards required at Findel. lux-Airport has already indicated that it will examine all possible actions against the construction companies and engineering firms involved, including legal proceedings if necessary.
Backes clarified in her written reply that responsibility for the works lies entirely with lux-Airport, which is the contracting party with the engineers and builders who carried out and supervised the project.
