Esch-sur-Alzette has banned all open fires and barbecues in public spaces from Thursday until further notice as persistent heat and drought create a particularly high risk of wildfires. The ban applies to forests, parks, green spaces, nature areas, and all other public spaces in the city – including designated barbecue sites.
It comes as yellow alerts for extreme heat and strong wind gusts are in effect.
City authorities urged residents to remain vigilant and warned against discarding cigarette butts, bottles, or pieces of glass outdoors, as they could start a fire in the current conditions.
Anyone who sees smoke or a fire should leave the area immediately and call the emergency number 112. People reporting a fire in a forest are advised to provide the number of the nearest emergency marker to help responders locate the incident.
