A crew from the sanitation company PreZero Lamesch demonstrated remarkable composure and quick reflexes on the N16 between Mondorf and Remich on Wednesday when they spotted a fire starting by the roadside. Travelling in a tanker-equipped lorry, the team noticed the flames and decided to intervene immediately using equipment on board their vehicle.
According to a statement shared on the company's LinkedIn page, the workers managed to contain the fire until firefighters arrived to take over. The prompt action is credited with preventing the blaze from escalating and potentially causing more serious damage.
Speaking to RTL Infos, a company spokesperson explained that the team was en route to a client when they noticed the fire. The spokesperson said that although this is not their primary responsibility, their staff are trained to deal with such situations, so they did what was necessary.
The fire is believed to have started at the edge of the road, raising the possibility that it was caused by a discarded cigarette. The spokesperson added that such behaviours are unacceptable, especially given the current conditions.
The decisive intervention by the sanitation workers likely prevented a more serious incident. With Luxembourg experiencing a prolonged dry spell, authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and to avoid risky behaviours such as discarding cigarette butts or lighting barbecues outside designated areas.
