On Friday at 5pm, 48 hours after a major disruption to the Post network in Luxembourg, a statement has been issued regarding the technical issue it caused.
The Post and the Luxembourg crisis unit, convened by the Prime Minister, early Friday afternoon held a press briefing confirming that the network issue had been caused by a cyberattack.
In their statement, they referred to the outage as a "very sophisticated attack", but highlighted that the hackers had not succeeded in gaining access to internal systems and therefore did not access any customer data. The attack was said to have aimed to disrupt service operations.
As a result of the attack, Post’s mobile and fixed-line telephone networks, along with its internet services, were down for approximately four hours on Wednesday.
On Thursday, Post officials stated that there was no indication of an external attack at that time. Technical analyses are still ongoing, and efforts are underway to identify those responsible for the cyberattack.
The High Commissioner for National Protection is coordinating this analysis in close cooperation with all those concerned, according to the crisis unit.
