Police in Luxembourg are reporting a growing number of accidents involving electric scooters, with some incidents resulting in serious injuries.
In their bulletin on Sunday morning, officers detailed several recent cases, underscoring concerns about rider safety and compliance with traffic regulations.
At around 10.20am on Saturday, police were called to the scene of an accident in Esch, where an electric scooter rider had fallen. According to initial findings, the individual appears to have lost control due to inattention.
The rider suffered a head injury and was taken to hospital for observation. Further inspection of the scooter revealed that its speedometer registered up to 55km/h, which is a speed well above the legal limit for such vehicles.
Police issued a formal report regarding the violation.
Later that afternoon, at approximately 4pm, another accident was reported on a cycle path in Ehlerange. This incident involved a collision between a cyclist and an electric scooter.
The cyclist sustained injuries, and an investigation is now underway to determine the precise circumstances leading up to the crash.
The police also provided details of an earlier incident, which occurred on 1 September at around 9pm in the Limpertsberg district. In this case, a scooter rider fell and struck their head against the mirror of a car, sustaining serious injuries.
Police confirmed that the individual was no longer in life-threatening condition. A breathalyser test indicated the rider was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Police added that the scooter itself met all technical requirements.
