The Chamber of Employees, the two major trade unions, and the association Mouvement écologique have criticised the government for neglecting the social aspect of the ecological transition, calling for clearer strategies, better data, and increased funding.

At a joint press conference held at the Chamber of Employees (CSL) on Thursday, the Independent Luxembourg Trade Union Confederation (OGBL), the Luxembourg Confederation of Christian Trade Unions (LCGB), and the association Mouvement écologique came together to highlight this issue. Their main concern centres on the Social Climate Plan (PSC), which all EU member states are expected to draft by the end of the year.

The list of proposed improvements put forward by the four groups is extensive. They argue that the financial resources allocated must go well beyond what the EU has set out. So far, they say, the Luxembourg government has not presented any clear strategy – something they attribute in part to the lack of key definitions, such as who exactly should benefit from the aid provided under the plan. They also noted a shortage of concrete data and statistics.

Moreover, the organisations reiterated that people on low incomes are not the primary contributors to the environmental and climate crisis, yet they are the ones who suffer most from its consequences.
