Cases of avian influenza are increasing in Luxembourg, leading the Veterinary and Food Administration (ALVA) to issue a renewed call for vigilance, citing a high risk to poultry farms.
The resurgence of the H5N1 virus has become a point of concern, with authorities confirming 18 cases in wild birds. The affected species have primarily been herons and cranes, according to official reports.
In response to the heightened risk of the virus spreading to domestic flocks, the ALVA has reiterated a set of essential biosecurity measures for poultry owners. These include the mandatory confinement of all poultry and captive birds indoors. If outdoor access is necessary, it must be limited to areas protected by nets and kept to a minimum.
Additionally, the administration stipulates that food and water for birds must be provided exclusively inside buildings to avoid contact with wild birds. Members of the public are also advised to report any discoveries of dead wild birds to the ALVA without delay.
