Combining manual checks and automated systems, Luxembourg authorities recorded nearly 8,000 speeding violations during April's Europe-wide road safety operation, according to police data released Thursday.

During the Europe-wide “Speed” enforcement initiative from 7 April 2025 to 13 April 2025, Luxembourg police conducted 1,006 targeted speed checks across the Grand Duchy, identifying 634 speeding violations.

The operation, coordinated by the European Roads Policing Network (ROADPOL), resulted in 18 driving licences being immediately confiscated for excessive speeding, with an additional 24 licences withdrawn for alcohol-impaired driving.

Automated enforcement systems complemented officer efforts, with fixed and mobile speed cameras recording 7,330 violations during the same period.

The intensive 24-hour “Speedmarathon” operation on 9 April saw Luxembourg police conduct 260 dedicated speed checks, issuing 348 citations. These included 222 fines of €49 and 126 more severe penalties of €145 accompanied by 2-point deductions.

Officers confiscated 5 licences for extreme speeding and 3 more for drink driving, while camera systems detected an additional 1,900 violations across the country.
