Under the deal, the number of roles affected by organisational changes has been reduced to 370, after adjustments reflecting what the company described as business needs and local strategy.

Although a significant number of redundancies, the figure of 370 is less than the 470 anticipated in earlier reports.

The agreement comes at the end of a two-week negotiation period between Amazon and the Staff Delegation, who had earlier expressed concerns over the general direction and mitigation measures proposed by the retail giant after the first round of talks.

The latest statement suggests a compromise has been met by both parties.

In the joint statement emailed to all employees, it states the Staff Delegation has secured a social plan that includes a support package that goes “well beyond industry benchmarks and comparable local agreements” in the Grand Duchy, though no further financial details were disclosed.

Amazon outlined its immediate focus would be on implementing the agreed measures and supporting affected employees through the transition. In line with timelines proposed by the Staff Delegation, the retail giant expects to begin contacting impacted staff in early February.

Employees were encouraged to contact their manager, members of the Luxembourg leadership team or the Staff Delegation if they required support. The availability of an Employee Assistance Programme, which offers confidential support to staff and their families was also highlighted in the statement.

Asked for comment, the Staff Delegation said the agreement had been reached in the ‘interests of employees’. It added that it would remain involved throughout the process to support ‘every single impacted colleague’.

Amazon has no further comments beyond the joint statement.
