he expansion of Luxembourg’s tram network is moving forward as construction begins on the K2A extension, which will eventually connect Line 1 to the airport, with added green spaces along the route.
The tram's Line 1 is set to extend all the way to the airport, with construction already underway on Boulevard Konrad Adenauer in Kirchberg.
Dubbed the K2A extension, the new route will run from the Grand Duchess Charlotte Bridge, passing landmarks such as the European Investment Bank and the European School.

Construction officially began on 17 February, requiring the removal of 92 trees along the boulevard, while 49 others were transplanted. However, Luxtram has assured that the redesign will include even more greenery than before. "With the new tram extension, the existing 10,000 m² of green space will be increased by 50%. The number of trees along the 2.3 km avenue will also rise to 400, including the 49 transplanted trees and 150 newly planted ones," the company stated.
The section between the Grand Duchess Charlotte Bridge and the European School is expected to be operational by September 2027.
