In a bid to make local governance more inclusive, Luxembourg City will introduce live French interpretation for city council meetings starting in March 2025.

During the "CityBreakfast" press conference on Wednesday morning, Luxembourg City officials announced that city council meetings will soon include live French interpretation.

This initiative, set to begin at the next "CityBreakfast" session on 3 March 2025, aims to make council meetings more accessible to a broader audience. In 2023, between 550 and 800 people followed the meetings either live or via archived recordings.

François Benoy of the Green Party (Déi Gréng) welcomed the move, noting that it fulfils a long-standing request from his party. "We have made this request multiple times, but it was consistently blocked by the majority," said Benoy, who also called for live English interpretation to be introduced in the future.

In other announcements, officials confirmed the return of the Octave market to Place Guillaume II in 2025. The traditional event will commence on 9 May, with the Luxembourg market temporarily relocated to Place de la Constitution, near the Golden Lady monument, during this period.
