Luxembourg police are probing possible links between a series of ATM explosion attempts, including the latest in Saeul on Wednesday night.

On Wednesday night, unknown suspects attempted to blow up an ATM on Rue de Mersch in Saeul, marking the latest in a series of similar incidents in Luxembourg. Recent attempts in Oberpallen and Reisdorf have raised questions about whether the same group is behind these attacks.

Marc Ragnacci of the Luxembourg Police's prevention service confirmed that investigators are exploring possible connections between the cases. While he declined to provide specific details due to the ongoing investigation, Ragnacci noted that authorities suspect the culprits are from abroad. As a result, Luxembourg police are collaborating closely with law enforcement agencies in neighbouring countries.

Despite the attempts, none of the incidents have resulted in stolen money, a fact the police attribute to effective security measures. These include ongoing cooperation with the Luxembourg Bankers' Association (ABBL) to enhance ATM safety and the introduction of a new generation of ATMs equipped with advanced security features. For example, some machines are designed to detect gas or are protected by metal curtains.

Ragnacci explained that there are two primary methods used to blow up ATMs: explosives and gas.

The police are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity by calling the police emergency number 113.
