An ATM in Reisdorf was blown up in the early hours of Friday morning, prompting an immediate police response and road closures in the area.
The Luxembourg police have confirmed that an ATM in Reisdorf was targeted in an explosion early Friday morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 4.25am on Route de la Sûre, prompting authorities to close the road to traffic until further notice.
Police are currently on the scene conducting an investigation and have advised the public to avoid the area for the time being.
A resident described hearing an unusually loud bang: "I've never heard a noise like that in my life." Initially, he mistook it for thunder, but a second explosion quickly followed. Looking out the window, he saw a black car speeding over the bridge toward Germany.
Another witness reported a flash of light captured on his surveillance camera. Authorities have yet to determine the exact method used to blow up the ATM or assess the full extent of the damage.
Reisdorf Mayor Jean-Pierre Schiltz stated that a full assessment is needed to determine the extent of the damage. However, an initial inspection suggests the station building made of stone remains largely intact, with only one broken window reported.
Call for witnesses
On Friday afternoon, the police issued a call for witnesses. Anyone with information regarding the ATM explosion is urged to contact the Judicial Police at spj.rgb@police.etat.lu.
