The number of influenza cases in Luxembourg has increased by 18% in just one week, according to the latest report from the Ministry of Health, released on Thursday. While flu infections continue to climb, Covid-19 cases are showing a downward trend.
The Ministry of Health’s weekly review, covering the period from 13 to 19 January, highlights a steady rise in flu activity during the current flu season. Laboratory-reported cases jumped from 1,377 to 1,626, marking an 18% increase compared to the previous week.
Of the reported flu cases, 74% were attributed to influenza A, with the remaining 26% linked to influenza B. Among the influenza A virus samples, subtypes A(H1)pdm09 accounted for 43.2%, while A(H3) made up 56.8%.
The flu outbreak has also significantly impacted schoolchildren, as noted in a previous article.
In contrast, infections caused by Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) and Covid-19 have declined. Covid-19 cases, in particular, dropped by 23%, from 94 to 72 positive SARS-CoV-2 tests during the same period.
