Luxembourgish composer Nik Bohnenberger has been named the new artistic manager of Ensemble Recherche, a renowned soloist ensemble based in Freiburg, where he will shape its artistic vision and future direction.

The renowned ensemble of soloists, known for its focus on modern music, has been based in Freiburg im Breisgau, southern Germany, since 1985. Now, Luxembourgish composer Nik Bohnenberger will shape its future as the new Artistic Manager.

Bohnenberger succeeds Paul Clift, who held the position until the summer of 2024. As artistic manager, he will oversee the ensemble’s artistic direction, programme planning, and the development of new formats starting this year.

Born in Luxembourg in 1994, Nik Bohnenberger began his musical education at the Luxembourg Conservatoire before continuing his studies in Berlin. As a composer, he has collaborated with notable institutions such as the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Brandenburg State Orchestra Frankfurt-Oder, and the Staatstheater Kassel.

On his new role, Bohnenberger shared: "Since 2019, Recherche has taken a new direction, and I am eager to continue and refine this path. My goal is to harness the ensemble's expertise to foster an open dialogue with the contemporary music scene and address socio-cultural developments, all while introducing one or two pioneering elements."
