Swift Hesperange has been fined €4,000 after failing to comply with orders from the Labour and Mines Inspectorate over unpaid wages.
In 2024, five employees of the Hesperange football club lodged complaints with the Labour and Mines Inspectorate (ITM) over unpaid wages spanning several months.
According to Minister of Sport Georges Mischo, who addressed the issue in response to a parliamentary question from the Left Party (Déi Lénk), the ITM took action in all five cases. In two instances, the club failed to comply with orders issued by the inspectorate, resulting in a €4,000 fine. Two other cases remain under review, while the fifth complaint was dismissed as the complainant did not meet the criteria to be considered an employee.
On the 14th matchday of the BGL League, a planned game between Swift Hesperange and Mondorf-les-Bains was cancelled after Hesperange players went on strike over the unpaid wages. As a result, Mondorf was awarded a 3-0 victory by forfeit.
