The OGBL trade union has condemned Civil Service Minister Serge Wilmes for rejecting calls to establish an independent commission to address workplace bullying, labelling his stance a "slap in the face" to victims.
The Independent Luxembourg Trade Union Confederation (OGBL) in a statement has criticised Minister for the Civil Service Serge Wilmes for "refusing to offer efficient protection to bullying victims in public service". Anger over Wilmes' position came after his response to a recent parliamentary enquiry from MPs Gusty Graas and Fernand Etgen of the Democratic Party (DP), a response the OGBL has since labelled a "slap in the face" for all victims.
The trade union's main point of criticism is Wimes' refusal to launch an independent investigation commission despite at least 18% of civil servants reporting incidents of bullying in the workplace. Wilmes, in his reponse, had explained to MPs Graas and Etgen that he does not consider a parallel mechanism to the already existing disciplinary procedures effectual.
The OGBL statement finally demands that the minister "take responsibility" to provide bullying victims with appropriate support.
