Similarly to the emergency services, Luxembourg's police also had a lot to do on Christmas Eve. Around 60 disputes and noise complaints were reported.
As the police writes in its report, most of the cases had calmed down by the time the officers arrived, or could be resolved upon arrival. In four families, however, the dispute had escalated to such an extent that the public prosecutor's office was informed and people were expelled. This was the case in Habscht, Esch-sur-Alzette, Gonderange, and Ettelbruck.

Burglaries and attempted burglaries
As in the last few days, many burglars were on the move on Christmas Eve.
They managed to break into properties and flee with stolen items in Luxembourg City (rue du Fort Neipperg), Dudelange (Nuddelfabrik), Cessange (Kohlenberg), and Strassen (rue des Carrefours).
In Mersch (rue Emmanuel Servais) and Garnich (rue des Sacrifiés), the burglars were caught by the residents as they attempted to break in, whilst perpetrators in Mamer (rue Mambra), Dudelange (rue des Coquelicots), and Gonderange (Grauenberg) fled as soon as the alarm system went off.
The police reminds residents that especially during the festive season, many burglars will be roaming the Grand Duchy, and urges residents to read up on how best to protect themselves against burglars.
Licenses revoked for drink driving
In addition to burglaries, the festive season brings a great deal of people driving even after having had too much to drink. On Christmas Eve, for example, three motorists were reported to the police who should not have been driving.
At around 4.30pm, a car was reported to the police on Route de Longwy in Bertrange for driving in serpentine lines and damaging a parked car. The officers then met the woman in question at home and subjected her to an alcohol test. As the test was positive, the woman had to hand in her driving licence and was issued a fine.
In Pétange on rue d'Athos, a patrol noticed a parked car with the engine still running. The driver, who had fallen asleep behind the wheel, had to be woken up by the police. He had also had too much to drink and had to give up his driving licence.
At around 5am in the early hours of Wednesday, an accident was reported on the N33 between Esch-sur-Alzette and Rumelange, where a motorist ended up in a ditch. The man behind the wheel was not injured, but appeared visibly drunk. Here too, the alcohol test was positive and a provisional driving ban was imposed.
