The Ministry of Finance has issued a warning around a phishing scam in which fraudsters are impersonating the Luxembourgish tax authorities.

Scammers are posing as the Luxembourg tax office and sending fraudulent account statements to taxpayers, falsely indicating an outstanding tax balance. The fraudsters are then pressuring recipients to make immediate payments under the threat of incurring late payment interest.

The Ministry points out that these account statements are counterfeit, with fabricated file and account numbers. Recipients will also notice that the fake documents include errors in spelling and dates.
