The Luxembourg City (VdL) municipality spent nearly €5 million on the two-day throne accession festivities, increasing the total cost to €8.6 million.

This figure was confirmed on Monday at the municipal council meeting by the Democratic Party (DP) mayor of Luxembourg City, Lydie Polfer.

The largest expense was the 360° - stage for Saturday evening's concert on the Glacis. Security equipment, such as concrete blocks and barriers, cost €450,000. Security services were billed at €180,000. The decoration of Place Guillaume II and the grandstand cost €215,000.

However, the final amount could still vary slightly, as only about a third of the final invoices have been received by the City council to date, the mayor said in response to an urgent question posed by Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP) City councillor Maxime Miltgen.

In a breakdown of state expenditure for the throne accession celebrations, Prime Minister Luc Frieden said the bill from Atelier, which covered the drone show and the Red Bridge show, was €4 million. BCE, responsible for broadcasting, charged €3 million.

Frieden later clarified that these €7 million did not represent the full state cost. On Monday, the government put the total at €8.6 million, indicating additional expenses beyond the two headline contracts.
