A suspicious package sent to a Bonnevoie-based company triggered a major police intervention on Thursday afternoon.

The discovery of a suspicious package triggered a police operation in Bonnevoie on Thursday afternoon. Authorities confirmed that the operation was in response to the threat.

As part of the operation, a section of Rangwee was closed, and tram traffic was disrupted along Boulevard de Kyiv.

The Luxembourg National Railway Company (CFL) announced at around 4.30pm that train services had been halted in both directions between Luxembourg City, Bettembourg, Thionville, and Metz, but revised this statement a few minutes later.

"Back to normal (...) delays and cancellations to be expected between Luxembourg City, Bettembourg, Thionville, and Metz," the CFL website read at 4.36pm.

At around 4.55pm, the police announced that the security perimeter had been lifted and that they were reopening the  streets that had been closed.

According to RTL sources, the alert was issued in the course of the afternoon by a company located on Rangwee after it had received a suspicious package from Poland that could have been a bomb.

The police set up a security perimeter around the area, and several nearby buildings and homes were evacuated as a precautionary measure.

The canine brigade and the bomb disposal unit were mobilised.
