A powerful air vortex, likely caused by a landing cargo plane, tore tiles from a roof in Hamm on Wednesday morning, hurling debris into the street near two daycares and prompting an investigation by aviation authorities.

Residents in Hamm got an unexpected wake-up call on Wednesday morning when several tiles were ripped from a roof and projected into the street, some shattering upon impact. According to eye witnesses, the incident was likely caused by a strong air vortex created by a landing cargo plane.

The building in question is located on the 'Am Haff' cul-de-sac, right across from two daycares. However, no children were outside at the time of the incident and no injuries were reported.

According to the Findel airport schedule, the vortex was likely created by a Chinese cargo plane. While such vortexes are rare, a similar incident already occurred in the area a decade ago and damaged three houses at the time, according to Roger Schlechter, president of a local interest group.

The Air Navigation Administration (ANA) has been tasked with an investigation.
