For the third time this year, websites operated by the Luxembourg state were targeted in a DDoS attack.

The Government IT Centre (CTIE) has confirmed that websites managed by the Luxembourg state were targeted in a DDoS attack on Thursday. It was the third such attack in 2024, following earlier incidents in spring and late October.

The attack occurred between 10.10am and 10.30am on Thursday morning. Most state-operated websites were affected, including Guichet.lu. As of Thursday afternoon, all issues have been resolved.

Distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks overwhelm networks by flooding them with superfluous requests from a variety of sources in order to render them unusable. Such attacks are sometimes used in the context of blackmailing attempts or politically motivated actions.
