The Government IT Centre (CTIE) faced another cyberattack last month, marking the second such incident this year.
On Wednesday, 23 October, state websites, including the emergency services site 112, were hit by a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack. The Minister for Digitalisation, Stéphanie Obertin, confirmed the incident in response to a parliamentary question from Pirate Party MP Marc Goergen.
Minister Obertin explained that the attack rendered the affected websites temporarily inaccessible around midday. She also noted that CTIE regularly faces attempts to breach its systems, describing the ongoing situation as a "cat-and-mouse game."
For security reasons, no details about the government’s defence measures were disclosed.
DDoS attacks overwhelm networks with excessive requests, causing disruptions. These cyberattacks are often used as tools for extortion or to further political agendas.
The attack follows an earlier incident in spring, raising concerns about the increasing vulnerability of state-managed digital infrastructure.
